Welcoming all who believe in Jesus Christ and wish to join us in the task of building up His kingdom in the Roman Catholic Tradition.

he Catholic Appeal of South Carolina, formerly the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, is the annual effort that puts faith into action by supporting the critical ministries, parishes, and schools of the Diocese of Charleston, which encompasses the entire state of South Carolina.

Your generosity to the Catholic Appeal of South Carolina will sustain and bolster the crucial statewide work of our Church, which consists of:

  • 94 parishes
  • 21 missions
  • 32 schools
  • 103 diocesan priests
  • 195 permanent deacons
  • 21 campus ministries
  • 21 youth ministry programs
  • 15 Catholic Charities locations

By answering Christ’s call to carry forth His mission and be good stewards, supporters of the Catholic Appeal are lighting the way for our Church to remain ever-present across South Carolina, ensuring hope and support for all who seek it.

Please join us in welcoming our new pastor, Father John Valenzuela!

Fr. John F. Valenzuela is a religious priest who belongs to the Cleric Regular of Somasca Congregation also known as the Somascan Fathers Congregation.  He was born on June 14, 1969 in the province of Pamapalga, Philippines.  His father’s name is Filipino A. Valenzuela, a native of Paoay, Ilocos Norte.  A soldier by profession, he was in the service for 24 years in the Philippine Air Force.  His mother, Nena J. Valenzuela, is a housewife who has served the Catholic Church as a member of the Mother Butler’s Guild for about 30 years.  Father John entered the seminary in June 1987, at the age of 17.  After 14 years and completing 3 courses of AB English, Philosophy and Theology, he was ordained priest on November 17, 2002 at the Somascan Fathers Minor Seminary located in Pampanga Province, the same place where he first entered.

We encourage all who are able (particularly those who have received their vaccinations) to return to Saint John to participate in-person in our weekend celebrations of the Eucharist.

Please check the parish bulletin for more information and important updates.
