Our Church

Established in 1929, Saint John was built just outside the Charleston Navy Base. The present parishes Divine Redeemer and Saint Thomas the Apostle were originally part of Saint John and were formed as the North Area population grew in the 1960’s and 1970’s. At present, Saint John has about 145 member households.

In 1949 the School Sisters of Notre Dame from Baltimore came to Saint John to establish our K-8 parish school. The last Sister left in 1996, however the school continues to serve families in the wider Charleston Area. In the early 2000’s the character of our school changed to serve children children of varying abilities and learning styles.
